Memorial Day isn’t until May 30, but it’s time to get a jump start on making plans if you haven’t already. This three-day weekend (or four if you don’t have class on Fridays) is the perfect time to hang out with friends and family and remember those who have served our country. Here are the top 10 things to do over Memorial Day weekend.
1. Host a barbecue. Grab some friends, hot dogs and hamburgers and enjoy some time outside.
2. Go see a Ducks vs. Beavers baseball game at PK Park. There is one on Friday, May 27, at 7 p.m., one on Saturday, May 28, at 2 p.m. and one on Sunday, May 29, at 1 p.m.
3. Get some homework done. Finals will be looming, and you might need that extra day to finish writing a paper.
4. Attend Sasquatch Music Festival. Since it’s coming up, people will be selling tickets online for possibly less than face value.
5. Enjoy Tech N9ne and Andre Nickatina at the Cuthbert Amphitheater. The concert is Sunday, May 29, at 5 p.m., and tickets are on sale for $38.
6. Take a bike ride with a friend or loved one. Bikes are often used in Eugene solely for transportation, so go to a trail and truly enjoy it.
7. Run the 4-mile Memorial Day Marathon. It begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 30 at 23rd and Potter. Entry fee is $20.
8. Find a new farmer’s market. Bored with Eugene’s? There’s a Friday farmers market in Springfield on 5th and A streets, one on Saturday in Cottage Grove on 14th and Main streets, as well as one on Saturday and Sunday in Florence on the Old Town Boardwalk.
9. Go swimming. There are plenty of lakes and rivers around Eugene. You can even head down to the Autzen footbridge if you don’t have a car.
10. Head to the Eugene Masonic Cemetery to remember this day as what it was meant to be and honor the deceased veterans.
