Tuesday evening I had the opportunity to photograph a dress rehearsal for the upcoming community-based play “Salmon Is Everything.” The play portrays the conflict in a Southern Oregon community between Native Americans and farmers when low water levels caused by dams and irrigation result in a massive fish kill on the Klamath River. The play, directed by Theresa May, is being put on at Robinson Theater on the University of Oregon campus May 20-June 4.
The play “Salmon Is Everything” centers around the conflict between Native Americans and farmers and along the Klamath River created by each side’s use of water. Dams and water diverted for irrigation created a massive fish kill-off in 2007 angering Natives who have lived in the area for thousands of years. (Alex McDougall/Oregon Daily Emerald).
