Oregon’s baseball team concluded its non-conference season with a 7-2 road win over Portland.
The victory improved the Ducks’ record to 30-26-1 and gave Oregon the season series over the Pilots.
After spot starter Porter Clayton allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings, he was relieved by Scott McGough, who tossed a season-high 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball to earn his third win of the year. When McGough tired, Brando Tessar pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game.
Keeler Brynteson took the loss for Portland after allowing six runs (five earned) in three innings.
Oregon’s pitching staff got all the support it would need with a five-run first inning..
Danny Pulfer led off the game with a triple and later scored on a Portland error. Aaron Jones (single), Shawn Peterson (double), and Stefan Sabol (double) also added RBI hits in the inning.
Oregon added a run in the second on an RBI groundout by Andrew Mendenhall and one in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Pulfer.
The Pilots scored two runs in the third on a two-RBI single by designated hitter Turner Gill, but that was all the offense they’d muster.
The Ducks will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday for their last series of the year when they host Oregon State in a Civil War rivalry matchup.
