Oregon blew an early seven-run lead and fell 9-8 to Stanford Saturday afternoon at PK Park.
The Ducks scored in each of the game’s first five innings to gain a seemingly-secure 8-1 advantage, but Stanford scored three runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh to tie the game, and one in the eighth to take the lead for good.
Oregon fell to 25-24-1 (6-14 Pacific-10) with the loss, while Stanford improved to 28-17 (10-10 Pac-10).
Duck starter Alex Keudell allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings and was in line for the win, but relievers Kelle Moen and Madison Boer couldn’t hold Oregon’s lead.
Meanwhile, Cardinal relievers A.J. Talt and Chris Reed combined to toss five scoreless frames to help Stanford to an improbable victory.
In the process, Reed picked up his fourth win of the year while Boer was tagged with his fifth loss, his first his since transitioning to the bullpen.
Danny Pulfer continued his recent stretch of hot hitting, going 3-4 from the plate with his second home run of the year for Oregon, while Zach Jones and Brian Ragira led the Cardinal with three hits apiece.
After defeating Stanford Friday night, Oregon secured the series win with a 6-5 victory Sunday.
