University senior Patrick Compton, 21, was charged with second degree manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants early Monday morning.
Compton is currently being held at the Lane County Jail. He was originally charged with second degree assault in connection with an accident that fatally injured University senior Craig Macfie early Friday morning. After Macfie passed away this weekend from resulting injuries, the district attorney’s office charged Compton with manslaughter.
Because manslaughter is a Measure 11 charge, the minimum mandatory sentence is 75 months — or six years and 3 months — of jail time.
