ASUO Elections Coordinator Cedar Cosner@@http://asuo.uoregon.edu/executive.php?a=12@@ said Wednesday that just over 3,500 people have voted in the special election, which includes the referendum on the EMU Expansion and Renovation project.@@http://pages.uoregon.edu/mbill/EMU/EMU.html@@
For comparison, just over 5,000 people voted in March’s primary election, which saw Ben Eckstein elected as ASUO President.
In the special election, a ballot measure asking about student involvement in administrative hiring committees was removed when it was realized that the two options listed on the ballot meant the same thing.
In regards to the question, “Should students be excluded from hiring committees for high-ranking positions in the central administration?”, the ballot indicated that a “yes” vote supported student involvement in those committees while a “no” vote was “in opposition to the absence of students on hiring committees.”
