Hello, and welcome to ASUO Watch. This blog, driven primarily by Campus and Federal Politics Reporter Rockne Andrew Roll, will follow along with the Associated Students of the University of Oregon, the officially recognized student government of the University.
The ASUO controls almost $14 million of student fee funding, funneling that money to almost 200 organizations that provide services to students. The ASUO is responsible for student football tickets, bus passes, the EMU, and every student club and activity. All these projects and programs are administered by students, elected once a year. This organization deserves the same level of attention and oversight that media outlets provide to local, state, and federal governments everywhere there is a free press. ASUO Watch, along with the Oregon Daily Emerald as a whole, exists to help fulfill this end.
Rockne Andrew Roll is a graduate student in journalism. Roll previously covered the ASUO for the Oregon Commentator, where he was Managing Editor. Roll has also worked for the Emerald as a junior reporter and as crime and safety reporter before returning to the student government beat this fall.
