The Oregon women’s track and field team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation in the preseason by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
After winning the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field national championship for the first time in school history, the Ducks are ranked ahead of Texas A&M, LSU, Tennessee and Clemson in the USTFCCCA’s 2011 preseason poll.
The Oregon men, who tied for second at last year’s NCAA championships, begin the year ranked fourth. Defending national champion Florida is the preseason No. 1, followed by LSU and Texas A&M.
The Ducks return six All-Americans on the women’s side, including defending indoor heptathlon champion Brianne Theisen and pole vault runner-up Melissa Gergel.
Oregon begins the indoor track and field season with the University of Washington Indoor Preview on Saturday.
