The proposed EMU renovation project was rejected by voters in this week’s ASUO Student Referendum, which concluded today. A similar measure concerning the Student Recreation Center was also rejected.
Fifty-seven percent of voters said they were opposed to the EMU renovation and the associated $65 per student per term fee, while 52 percent opposed the SRC expansion.
Voters also provided the following results by wide margins:
-Support for giving the ASUO Senate and Executive sole authority to set student government stipends.
-Opposition to reduced space for student groups in a potential new EMU.
-Opposition to the current structure of the EMU Board.
-Opposition to closing the EMU during a potential renovation
-Opposition to the current structure of the SRC Board.
-Support for increased governing authority for the SRC Board.
-Opposition to closing the SRC during a potential expansion.
-Opposition to eliminating the Office of Multicultural Academic Success.
-Opposition to the athletic department paying legal fees relating to alleged violations of NCAA rules with tuition dollars.
-Opposition to the athletic department receiving tuition dollars.
