Oregon women’s tennis head coach Alison Silverio called today’s 7-0 sweep of Boise State a “huge confidence builder.” But more than that, the win was Oregon’s sixth straight win in three weeks.
The Ducks are currently ranked No. 28, the highest rank Oregon has received since 2005.
“We’re certainly moving in the right direction,” Silverio said. “We haven’t been home for a while so it was exciting to get back out on our home courts and play in front of the crowd.”
Since Feb. 5, Oregon has been on the road, taking on teams in Texas, Oklahoma and Hawaii. But those road trips paid off for the Ducks, who are now 8-2 this season.
In today’s win, the Ducks snapped up the doubles point to earn the first point of the day before singles victories secured the win for Oregon.
“This Boise State team is very tough, competitive team, coached well and I was proud of the way our girls were able to finish the right way today,” Silverio said.
Just one of Oregon’s six singles matches went past a second set today.
The No. 116 singles rank Shweta Sangwan took her match 6-2, 6-1, while Alyssa Tobita, Christi Woodson, Kennan Johnson and Nia Rose each finished in straight sets, earning Oregon the 6-0 lead.
The final match in play was Daniela Nasser on No. 3. The freshman won her first set 6-3, before falling 5-7 in the second. In the deciding match, Nasser overcame a four-point deficit to win the tie-breaker match, 11-9, and secure the final singles point for the Ducks.
The Ducks swept the Broncos 7-0.
Oregon will remain at home for the next two weekends when Pac-12 play begins next Friday, March 11.
“We’ve got a tough road ahead but that’s the exciting part,” Silverio said. “We’ll have a good three or four days of practice here next week, then back at it with Washington State.”
