– Heading into Sunday’s super regional game, five-seed Oregon held a 1-0 series lead over 12 seed UCLA. All Oregon had to do was beat UCLA once to end the series and earn a trip to the College World Series. UCLA had other ideas though.
Down to their last two outs in game two, UCLA rallied to defeat the Ducks 2-1 and force a game three. From there, it was all Bruins. Oregon lost 2-1 in game three to fall short of a College World Series berth once again.
– A day after jumping up the leaderboards at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, continued its elite play, riding the hot hand of sophomore Aaron Wise. Wise shot a 6-under 64 — the best round of any individual this weekend — and vaulted himself into first place overall among individuals. As a team, Oregon made the cut and currently sits in the fifth, seven strokes back of first place Vanderbilt.
– Oregon has dominated the collegiate track and field world all year and that looks to continue as the NCAA Outdoor Championships approach. Despite losing junior Jasmin Todd to “unforeseen circumstances,” both men’s and women’s teams remain in good position to repeat as NCAA Championships. Oregon qualified 32 athletes to the NCAA Championships this year.
– Part of Oregon’s track and field success has come in the long distance. A huge part of that success has recently come from freshman Matthew Maton. Maton, a high school track prodigy, had a shaky start to his Oregon career but has since righted the ship to become one of the Ducks elite distance athletes.
– Last week, Oregon’s basketball program learned that sophomore Dillon Brooks and freshman Tyler Dorsey would be returning to the program for at least one more season. Their decision has prompted some to already call the Ducks favorites in the Pac-12 for the upcoming season, as well as a preseason top 10 selection.
