For the second time in two seasons, the Oregon Ducks have suffered a loss to out-of-conference rival Baylor. The Bears, who are ranked No. 1 in the nation, topped the Ducks by a score of 278.935 to 274.450 at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
The No. 2 Ducks trailed by less than one point going into the final team event, but the Bears won that event 99.360-95.700 to put the Ducks away for good.
Oregon, who is now 2-1 on the season, picked up wins in the acro, pyramid and tumbling events at the beginning of the meet, and trailed just 94.75-94.55 after the first half. However, Baylor swept the toss event, tumbling event and ultimately the team event to pull away from the Ducks in the second half.
“It was so much fun. We just wanted to come out here and execute, and I feel like we did that pretty well,” Baylor base Kiara Nowlin told BaylorBears.com after the match.
The loss dropped the Ducks’ season record to 2-1. They will be in action once again when they host Adrian and King in a tri-meet on March 7.
The Ducks will have an opportunity to avenge their loss when they face the Bears again at home on March 30, in what will be the first acrobatics and tumbling meet ever to be aired on television. The Pac-12 Network will broadcast the meet.
