Oregon turned its day around Friday afternoon. In its second game of the day against Cal State Northridge, it took home a 14-3 win.
After a 5-6 loss to Nebraska in the morning, the Ducks came back strong with a 5-0 lead by the second inning, only to extend that lead even further in its domination of Cal State Northridge.
The win advanced Oregon’s record to 9-4 on the season.
Janelle Lindvall and Alyssa Gillespie had already hit home runs for the Ducks before the third inning, when the Matadors finally made it on to the score board.
With bases loaded in the fifth inning, April Utecht earned a walk to advance the Oregon lead 7-1.
The sixth inning is when the Ducks really went off. Gwen Svekis crushed a grand slam, then Cherish Burks’ first career home run brought in two more runs.
In the sixth inning alone, Oregon put up eight runs to make it 14-1.
The Matadors added two more runs in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough. Oregon took the game 14-3.
Tomorrow, the Ducks take on Fresno State then Missouri as part of the Mary Nutter Classic. Play begins at 3 p.m.
