Though Dillion Brooks won’t be ready for the Ducks’ start to the 2016-17 season, he earned preseason All-American status on Wednesday.
A 65-member national media panel named the junior forward to its five-member team, which includes California’s Ivan Rabb, Duke’s Grayson Allen, Villanova’s Josh Hart and Iowa State’s Monte Morris.
Brooks, the team’s leading scorer from last season, with 16.7 points per game, had foot surgery in July and won’t be ready for the start of nonconference play. The Ducks remain hopeful that he will fully rejoin the team in late November or December.
With the selection, Brooks becomes the first Duck in program history to make the preseason All-American team.
Oregon starts its season with an exhibition game against Northwest Christian on Nov. 7 before the Ducks play their first counting game on Nov. 11 vs. Army.
