Maite Cazorla had a career weekend against the Arizona schools.
The Pac-12 conference certainly agrees.
Cazorla, Oregon’s first-year point guard, was named Pac-12 freshman of the week on Monday morning. She averaged 20 points and 6.5 assists per game and shot 63.6 percent from the field, helping the Ducks to a split against No. 8 Arizona State and Arizona.
The honor is the second of the season for Cazorla.
Against No. 8 Arizona State, Cazorla had just one turnover and tallied 17 points and six assists in a 63-58 Oregon loss. On Sunday, she racked up a career-high 23 points in a 76-54 win. She added seven assists and four steals.
In total, Cazorla shot 63.6 percent from the field over the weekend and was 8-for-11 against Arizona. She was also a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Her assist average of 6.1 for the season ranks No. 1 among freshmen in the NCAA and No. 18 among all players.
Cazorla’s buzzer-beater to end the first quarter against Arizona also earned her a spot in ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 plays of the day:
