The Oregon Club women’s volleyball team played the role of Cinderella this weekend at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association’s Collegiate Volleyball Sport Club Championships.
Oregon, ranked 35th coming into the tournament, upset three higher ranked teams to advance to the final round. However, Oregon eventually fell to UC Davis in the championship game.
Oregon was pushed to three matches in its first two games but came out on top in both. The team defeated Texas State San Marcos,
31-29, 19-25, 15-12, in the first round and upset 18th-ranked Michigan, 32-30, 15-25, 15-10, in the
second game.
But the team needed two matches in the next two games to reach the final round. Oregon defeated 29th-ranked Michigan State, 25-21, 25-15, and clinched a shot at the title game after beating 33rd-ranked Cal State Sacramento, 25-19, 25-19, in its fourth game of the day.
Oregon, who began competition at 8 a.m. against Texas State San-Marcos, finished the day at
7:15 p.m. against UC Davis. The team eventually ran out of gas in the final round, and UC Davis picked up the 25-13, 25-19 win to claim the championship.
