The Center on Diversity and Community will host a “Community Conversation” today focusing on campus climate and students’ understanding of race.
The event, which starts at 2 p.m. in 175 Knight Law Center, is being presented as part of CoDaC’s participation in the Five-Year Diversity Plan, a policy being drafted by the Office of Institutional Equity and
Diversity with the mission of
diversifying and educating the
University community.
The results of a two-year study on the campus’s cultural climate will be presented by the Campus Climate Research Interest Team during the first part of the meeting. According to a press release, the community conversation will then move to a facilitated forum with breakout sessions, during which audience members are invited to give comments.
One-hundred fifty students participated in the RIT study, which follows up on campus climate surveys conducted in 2001, according to the press release. Findings are based on focus group discussions about the meaning of “race” and recommendations made by those groups.
