Oregon women’s lacrosse held its first-ever Media Day on Thursday in preparation for the Ducks’ inaugural match against Stanford Feb. 12.
“We’re really looking forward
to playing someone else,” head coach Jen Larsen said.
The Ducks have been practicing since Jan. 18, not including the team’s fall workouts.
Larsen prepped the local media about lacrosse basics and answered questions about Oregon’s 18th and newest varsity sport.
“(They are) all learning about what it takes with time commitment …
being in the weight room, having meetings, having video,” Larsen, a two-time lacrosse All-American, said.
Larsen’s squad of 25 will include
23 freshman and no players with Division I-A varsity lacrosse experience.
On the injury front, freshman goalie Anna Poponyak will be
redshirting the 2005 season due
to knee surgery, and freshman midfielder Jenny Browne, who is wearing a boot on her right foot because of constant foot pain, expects to have the brace removed Monday.
“We’re looking forward to showing our kids and our abilities out on the field,” assistant coach Robert Bray Jr. said about the team’s opener.
The Ducks will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with Stanford, California, St. Mary’s, UC Davis and Denver.
