The Student Senate bolstered its ranks on Wednesday night, voting in two new members following seeral resignations in recent months.
Senators approved law student Michael Watson for business major Seat 17 and law student Ben Hovland for graduate and law student Seat 18.
Seat 18 has been empty since early November, while former Senator Sol Hart vacated Seat 17 on Jan. 15.
ASUO Vice President Mena Ravassipour said the ASUO Executive will appoint someone to Seat 14 next week. The executive will reopen applications for Seat 11, formerly occupied by Emily Sousa, because no one had applied, she said. Ravassipour added that the executive will soon conduct interviews for Programs Finance Committee Seat 3 as well.
The Senate also granted $314 of surplus funds for the Chinese
Student Association’s China Night on Feb. 13. The group will use the money to provide food for volunteers who help during the event, for which the Senate also released $2,000 of the group’s funds.
Also at the meeting, Senators unanimously passed a revised resolution condemning University sports teams from playing teams with “indigenous” mascots. The ASUO Constitution Court rejected the initial resolution because of vague language.
