Once again, the Oregon men find themselves in the number one spot.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranked the Ducks the No. 1 team in the nation for indoor track and field. Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida and Florida State round out the top five.
The Oregon women join their male counterparts among the top 10 teams in nation, debuting with the No. 8 ranking, just ahead of Texas Tech. The top three women’s indoor teams are Texas A&M, LSU and Michigan.
Olympians Galen Rupp and Andrew Wheating and All-Americans Alex Kosinski and Nicole Blood will likely compete for the Ducks during the indoor season, though coaches will probably limit their number of races.
The Oregon football team has added to the track team’s depth chart, as redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jamere Holland and freshman running back LaMichael James have joined on for the 2009 track season.
Both are expected to contribute on sprints and relays. Holland, who ran for the USC track team in 2007, competed in the 100m and the 4x100m relay. Holland posted the third-best prep 100m time in the nation (10.36) as a high school senior in 2006.
James, a native of Texarkana, Texas, was the state 100m champion in 2006 (10.51).
Today, Oregon’s men’s national championship and women’s national runner-up trophies will be on display at a NCAA Championship celebration, to be held at 5 p.m. in the EMU Ballroom.
Members of both the men’s and women’s teams will be in attendance, as will head coach and 2008 National Coach of the Year Vin Lananna and University President Dave Frohnmayer. A highlight video and short program will be presented as part of the meeting’s festivities.
The first 300 fans in attendance will also receive a celebratory T-shirt.
