Suggested that all Green Eugene employees be 21+ or have other legal verification. Must be actively enrolled at the University of Oregon for the full duration of the role applying for. Journalistic and/or managerial experience is required; knowledge of the cannabis industry and cannabis journalism is required. This is a paid position, with an expected 10 to 15 hours of work each week: 2 hours in weekly or bi-weekly meetings, 10 hours working digitally or in the field, and 5 hours copyediting.
Editor Responsibilities:

Facilitates day-to-day operations: weekly, bi-weekly and as-needed meetings with professional staff, meetings with Green Eugene staff of about 10 members falling under the coordination and selection of the editor (hiring and firing), and meetings with ad reps, socials and/or group events.

Delegates duties of positions per the assessment of the editor’s own skill set and individual team member’s skill set. Optional hiring of social media coordinator, copy editor, photo editor, etc.

Constructs quarterly story outlines: brainstorming and conducting story pitch processes with staff and working with them to uplift and finalize pitches.

Reports directly to the publisher.

Creates and adheres to quarterly timelines in the tangent of the academic calendar provided by the Emerald Media Group that is approved or modified by the publisher to ensure meeting all deadlines.

Copy editing and fact-checking every article: accuracy, grammar, and style guide (including professional and accurate journalistic storytelling) for quarterly print publication and online publication.

Acting as the representative of the publication at events and in the field. Conducts and maintains professional relationships with businesses, brands and community partners, including but not limited to local dispensaries, organizations and brands.

Developing junior writers and facilitating educational work experience for staff members.

Developing the success of the publication as a facilitator of a 501C nonprofit business.

Sensitivity awareness: Ensuring that all content reported on within Green Eugene is appropriate, informative, safe for readers, sensitive to all groups, etc.
