Oregon ended its two-week road trip to begin the 2015 season with a straight-set victory over Texas State on Tuesday night. The No. 12 Ducks defeated the Bobcats by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-19 to improve to 6-3 on the season as they head into Pac-12 play.
The Ducks got off to another slow start, but this time they were able to rebound for the win.
After falling behind 12-5, Oregon refused to roll over and fought back point by point. A big 7-3 run got the Ducks within three, 15-12. It wasn’t until 21-20 when Oregon took its first lead of the set.
The Ducks took an early 4-3 lead in the second set before turning on the jets and outscoring the Bobcats 21-13 over the remainder of the set. Senior Martenne Bettendorf led the way with six kills.
The third set was a combination of the first two. Oregon led Texas State 11-10 before a 9-2 run gave the Ducks a 19-12 lead. Texas State managed one last big rally to keep the score close, but the Ducks prevailed for the win in the end.
Offensively, Oregon hit .358 over the match. Bettendorf led the team with 17 kills. Sophomore Taylor Agost and freshman Lindsey Vander-Weide notched nine and eight kills, respectively, while junior Kacey Nady chipped in six kills.
Sophomore setter Maggie Scott had a great all-around game. She dished out 35 assists, dug 10 balls and added five kills on six attempts.
Oregon returns to action Thursday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Oregon State for the Pac-12 volleyball season opener.
