The ‘Best of Campus’ winners were determined by a student vote. The winners do not reflect the opinion of the Emerald.
Those who have read Jeff Bell’s Oregon sports blog know his Duck obsession is no secret.
As a boy, Bell’s parents told stories about rainy football games in the ’80s, and through family his fandom was born.
“I grew up living for Saturdays in the fall — and I still do,” Bell said. “I’ve always said I would rather be at Autzen on game day than anywhere else in the world.”
And if he’s not at Autzen, Bell is following the team wherever they fly — he went to Pasadena, Calif., for the Rose Bowl in 2010 and to Glendale, Ariz., for the national championship game in 2011. Today, he invests so much emotion into the team that a win or loss for the Ducks is the difference between a great or hell-bent week for Bell.
In addition to football, Bell has enjoyed following Oregon’s improvement within the basketball program. In fact, watching Oregon’s athletic program grow has been one of Bell’s favorite parts of being a Duck fan.
“To be a part of this,” he said, “during the most successful four-year run in football history means a lot to me. And when I relay these memories to my kids and grandkids, it will mean even more.”
