Strong leaders and academically driven students are what make up the organization Order of Omega.
Since 1959, the Greek Leadership Honor Society has recognized high-achieving undergraduates nationally by creating bonds among students in fraternity and sorority life. Order of Omega at the University currently has 110 members, all of whom have a grade-point average above the required 3.25.
“I joined Order of Omega because I wanted an opportunity to network and communicate with other leaders in the Greek life community,” said University senior Ann Grimm.
The stated mission of Order of Omega is to help unify the Greek community through networking and service. Being apart of Order of Omega helps students take advantage of opportunities to further their abilities — specifically through career- and resume-building workshops, preparation for life after college, and, of course, guest speakers.
“This year we are doing some reconstruction in order to make it more beneficial for members and to make it an organization that students want to be a part of for reasons other than graduating with honors,” said the organization’s president, Carsten Thede.
“Thus far, we have had a representative from the UO Career Center give a presentation on how to find jobs, toured Ninkasi Brewery, had a speaker regarding nonprofit organizations, and we are having a resume-building workshop at the end of the month,” Thede said.
To date, over 500 chapters have been chartered throughout North America, allowing students to network outside of their home campus. Students with 90-plus credits who exemplify high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership and involvement within their respective community are encouraged to apply.
“Through this organization, I have met amazing individuals who are just as driven and motivated as me to succeed in academics and in leadership,” Grimm said.
