Thinking about going to Mexico for spring break? It’s not too late. Whether you want the classic beach party college experience or you are looking to get away to a remote stretch of beach, Mexico holds a plethora of options.
Cabo
When you think of a Mexico spring break, Cabo is probably one of the first places that comes to mind. From Cabo’s famous El Squid Roe Nightclub@@http://elsquidroe.com/@@ to its packed beaches, Cabo provides the classic party spring break experience. The majority of Cabo’s visitors in March and April tend to be college students, which makes it easy to meet new people and have a good time.
University senior Gabe Wasserman@@https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1050420071@@ went to Cabo for spring break in 2010 and said one of his strongest memories was just walking down the beach in an area called The Office@@http://theofficeonthebeach.com/@@.
“There’s a huge assortment of bars that are right on the beach, and there are masses of people,” Wasserman said.
In Cabo, you can also just relax and soak up the sun; play volleyball on the beach, hang out by the pool or grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. If you’re looking for that ultimate college spring break experience, Cabo is probably your best bet.
Puerto Vallarta
Another Mexico option is Puerto Vallarta. This gorgeous beach town is for the adventurous because of the unlimited supply of outdoor activities.
University senior Sajara Stark@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Sajara+Stark@@ went with a friend to Puerto Vallarta last spring break. Her highlights included swimming with the dolphins, boating, snorkeling and horseback riding to a waterfall on an island.
Although she said Puerto Vallarta was “definitely tourist-y,” she thought it is “a pretty safe area, because it’s such a popular destination.”
Puerto Vallarta also has a huge boardwalk next to the beach with a ton of restaurants, bars and shops. Sometimes you can even catch a glimpse of sand artists making their famous sand sculptures on the beach. This destination is a great option if you want adventure as well as a laid-back atmosphere.
Cancun
Finally, we have Cancun. It’s yet another beautiful Mexican beach town, but with a long history. In Cancun, you golf, swim with dolphins, lay on the beach, zip-line and sample Mexican cuisine — and you can actually visit Mayan ruins from the seventh century.
University junior Bethani Devish@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Bethani+Devish@@ recently visited Cancun with her family and said her favorite part was visiting the Chichen Itza ruins@@http://www.chichenitza.com/@@ which are only a short bus ride away.
Cancun provides an amazing atmosphere of a beach paradise with pristine blue water but also offers tons of nightclubs where you can dance and meet fellow college vacationers.
University senior Shasta Smith@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Shasta+Smith@@, who went to Cancun for spring break two years ago, suggests, “Find an all-inclusive resort. It will actually save you money.” Such resorts provide lodging, food and drinks, which can make a trip to Mexico affordable for college students.
