Crash pins Springfield woman against fence
A Springfield man allegedly crashed into a parked van Saturday night, pinning its owner into a fence. Steven Patrick Birkenbach, 42, has been charged with assault, drunken driving and reckless driving, He was also charged with hit and run for allegedly striking a vehicle parked near Springfield High School just minutes earlier.
The 38-year-old victim was unloading items from the back of the van when the crash occurred about 10 p.m. near the intersections of Seventh and Pleasant streets. She was transported to McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries and released on Sunday.
Birkenbach is being held in the Springfield Municipal Jail, The Register-Guard reports.
Emergency meeting over alleged ballot tampering
Chairwoman of the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners, Charlotte Lehan, has issued a series of questions monday morning at an emergency meeting on an investigation into alleged ballot tampering by a county elections worker.
Lehan, a Democrat, is racing to retain her seat against former Wilsonville Mayor John Ludlow, a Republican. She has called on County Clerk Sherry Hall, County Administrator Steve Wheeler and County Counsel Stephen Madkour to get to the bottom of these allegations, The Oregonian reports.
Eugene company sends shelters to East Coast after Sandy
Used by a variety of government agencies around the world, including military and disaster-relief agencies such as FEMA, Western Shelter Systems’ turnkey portable shelters have been found to be very useful. Now they find themselves being sent to the East Coast to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy, The Register-Guard reports.
