Possible kidnapping in South Eugene High School’s parking lot
The Eugene Police Department is investigating a reported kidnapping in the northeast parking lot of South Eugene High School around 5 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses reported seeing a white SUV, similar to a Chevy Blazer, pull up to a young man wearing a white jacket, according to KMTR. Three subjects jumped from the vehicle, put a white hood over the top of the victim’s head, put him in the car and sped off.
There have been no missing persons reports so far, but anyone with information should contact the Eugene Police Department.
Proposed UO golf course meets opposition from community
Neighbors of the proposed University of Oregon golf course are contesting the permit needed for such a project because they feel the chemicals needed to maintain the golf course could have negative impacts on surrounding areas.
The course, which would be used by the men’s and women’s golf teams along with select alumni, students and faculty, would be west of Creswell and south of Spencer Butte. The 800-acre project would be funded entirely by donors, according to The Register-Guard.
Woman accused of hitting bus driver arrested
After a violent attack on a LTD bus back in October, police arrested Tamela Mae Trice, 21,@@see link@@ on Nov. 14 on charges of third-degree assault and interfering with public transportation, according to KVAL.
Police say the original incident escalated after the victim was instructed by the bus driver to keep her feet off the seats in front of her. After the suspect became belligerent, the bus driver pulled the bus over and instructed the woman to exit the bus. Before leaving, the suspect walked toward the bus driver and hit him, causing minor injuries.
Budget cuts continue to plague Eugene jail
Lane County sheriff’s deputies were forced to release nearly 100 inmates last week due to budget cuts and lack of beds.
The sheriff’s office says 24 sentenced offenders got out early between Nov. 5 through Nov. 11, according to KEZI. Along with those numbers, sixty-six pretrial defendants were released early.
High school student pleads guilty on charges of computer hacking
A 16-year-old student from North Eugene High School plead guilty Thursday after hacking into district computers and releasing the confidential information of hundreds of students.
Shortly after posting the data online, the student sent messages to Eugene school’s superintendent Sheldon Berman@@see link@@and to the district’s then-technology director directing them to the released information, according to The Register-Guard.
The student was ordered by a juvenile court judge to go through psychiatric evaluation and has been expelled from North Eugene High School.@@checked all links@@
