Oregon Duck fans help raise $2,660 for the Children’s Miracle Network.
LANECO Federal Credit Union donated use of its parking lot to help raise the funds. The money will be split between two Oregon hospitals.
“Since we’re near the stadium (Autzen), we decided to utilize our parking lot to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, which does amazing work with kids at RiverBend and Doernbecher Hospital,” LANECO’s CEO Loreen Ervin said in a press release. “We had no idea we’d be so successful and people would be so generous.”
Mixed feelings over Oregon casino measures
Residents of Lane County are weighing the pros and cons of voting on measures 82 and 83 — ballot measures that authorize privately owned casinos as well as the construction of a new casino in Multnomah County.
Andria Inness, a worker at the Springfield Taco Time, says she will vote for the upcoming measures, saying “we need to have more in-state jobs,” a sentiment shared with many Lane County residents. This argument reflects the growing concern over the high unemployment rate in Oregon.
But local hair salon owner Maria, of D’Marias Beauty Salon, says this erodes the moral fiber of our state.
“I’m a member of the church, not the casino. Why don’t we invest in other programs that will help keep our young people out of trouble.”

Continued crime in Eugene Neighborhoods

Two inmates in Lane County federal prisons died last week after separate incidents occurring at different penitentiaries. Former Springfield resident Michael Paul Jones and former Eugene resident Roger Caldera Vigueria have been identified by officials as the victims of separate occurrences under investigation, The Register-Guard reports.
