SEATTLE — Oregon took care of business against Washington State on Saturday, and it got a boost from a familiar face. Junior Josh Huff returned to the lineup since spraining his knee earlier this year against Fresno State, and the Ducks wasted no time getting him involved.
Freshman quarterback Marcus Mariota hit Huff on an out route on Oregon’s first play from scrimmage, an 11-yard play that set the tone as the team marched toward their first touchdown.
With a heavy brace on his left knee, Huff even fought for extra yards before getting shoved out of bounds. Afterward he took to Twitter, saying it felt good to contribute to the team again.
“(Josh) does a lot with the ball in his hands,” Mariota said after the game. “He’ll break a couple tackles.”
On the other side of the ball, linebacker Michael Clay suffered an undisclosed leg injury that had him on the sidelines in sweats for much of the second half. As is his policy, head coach Chip Kelly refused to discuss injuries following the game.
Clay, the Pac-12’s reigning defensive player of the week, matched a career-high 13 tackles in last week’s win over Arizona. On Saturday, He limped off the field after sacking Cougars quarterback Connor Halliday.
