In a severe weather update, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office is asking citizens to prepare for heavy rain and potential flooding that may start in the next few days.
Major flooding is not expected, but minor flooding may occur. The valley may see 1-2 inches of rain between today and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Wind speeds in Lane County may meet and exceed 25 mph in some areas and have the potential to bring down trees and power lines.
Those who live in the 100-year flood plain should be aware of river levels, avoid driving through high water, and take preventative measures to protect personal property and animals, county Emergency Manager Linda Cook said. The Sheriff’s Office also discourages people from traveling during periods of intense rain unless absolutely necessary.
