Despite a season that saw him amass 1,624 yards and 21 touchdowns, Oregon senior Kenjon Barner did not win the Doak Walker Award for the country’s best running back, which was announced Thursday.
Instead it was Wisconsin’s Montee Ball that took the award, besting out Barner and UCLA running back Johnathan Franklin. Here’s how the three stacked up:
Kenjon Barner:
248 carries, 1,624 yards (6.5 ypc), 21 TD
19 receptions, 232 yards, 1 TD
Montee Ball:
332 carries, 1,730 yards, (5.2 ypc), 21 TD
9 receptions, 65 yards, 0 TD
Johnathan Franklin
268 carries, 1,700 yards (6.3 ypc), 13 TD
32 receptions, 319 yards, 2 TD
Both Franklin and Ball played one more game than Barner, as both Wisconsin and UCLA competed in their conference’s respective championship games.
Oregon’s last Doak Walker winner, LaMichael James, took to Twitter after the awards.
