U.S. Senate candidates Steve Novick and John Frohnmayer, who are vying for Republican Sen. Gordon Smith’s seat, will debate Wednesday evening at Knight Law School.
The debate will last from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Room 175, and beer, wine and appetizers will be provided by the Student Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.
Frohnmayer, an Independent, is the brother of University President Dave Frohnmayer. He spent 25 years as a trial lawyer in Oregon and Montana, according to his Web site. He has a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in American history and a master’s degree in Christian ethics from the University of Chicago. He also served in Vietnam and earned his law degree from the University’s law school.
Novick is a Democrat who, when schools in Cottage Grove closed, was allowed to enroll in the University’s honors college at 14. Novick then attended Harvard Law School. At 24, after receiving a law degree, Novick worked for the U.S. Department of Justice in the environmental division. He currently works as senior project manager of Pyramid Communications, a consulting firm working with non-profits, tribal and other public sector clients, according to his Web site.
