The final round of campaign contributions and expenditures from the ASUO spring elections show executives-elect Sam Dotters-Katz and Johnny Delashaw raised and spent less than they originally estimated, and Rock the Yellow slate members donated funds to their campaign that were not included in previous forms given to the Emerald.

Dotters-Katz and Delashaw raised $9,739 and spent $9,428 during the election. The campaign originally estimated their contributions could top $9,900.
Delashaw said the campaign overestimated the cost of a helium tank and some donated Facebook ads, which lowered the campaign’s contributions and expenditures.
Rock the Yellow candidates donated $945 to their campaign. Those donations, along with $300 spent on Web site design and an additional $168 spent at Kinko’s were not included in an earlier form.
Rock the Yellow campaign manager Matt Rose said he submitted proof of the cost of the Web site later than other forms at the end of primary week but the forms were misplaced in the ASUO office. Because the information was missing from the elections boards records, Delashaw filed a grievance with both the board and the ASUO Constitution Court.
The court chose to reserve judgment on the case earlier this week pending a decision by the elections board. ASUO Elections Coordinator Kendell Tylee said the board will release a decision Thursday morning.
The added contributions from slate members brings Rock the Yellow’s total to $3,290, which is less than either executive ticket in 2007 elections.

ASUO Executives
$9,428 | Dotters-Katz/Delashaw |
$4,350 | McLain/SunOwen |
$1,542 | Axelrod/Guzman |
$726 | Walsh/Coy |
Last year, President Emily McLain and Vice President Chii-San SunOwen raised $4,462 and spent $4,350. Sara Hamilton and Athan Papailiou received $2,914 and spent $3,997, according to Emerald archives.
The archives also show that in 2006, former ASUO President Jared Axelrod and former Vice President Juliana Guzman spent $1,542 on the primary election where they received the most votes. Axelrod and Guzman spent less than their opponents that year, who spent more than $2,600.
The biggest spenders did not win in 2005 either, when former ASUO President Adam Walsh and former Vice President Kyla Cox spent $726 to win, while their opponents Ashley Rees and Jael Anker-Lagos spent $1,305, according to earlier Emerald articles.
Delashaw said his campaign needed to spend more money than is typically spent because he and Dotters-Katz had “not the typical platform” and needed to reach out to new voters.
