Oregon’s Mike Bellotti was considered one of the top
candidates for the head coaching position at Notre
Dame, but after speaking with Notre Dame Athletic
Director Kevin White, Bellotti said he will stay in
Eugene.
“I was contacted by Notre Dame and talked with them,
and have said thank you very much, I appreciate being
considered, but am not, at this point, a candidate for
that job, and will not be one,” Bellotti said.
Georgia Tech head coach George O’Leary is rumored to
be close to signing with Notre Dame.
In other news, Oregon offensive coordinator Jeff
Tedford was interviewed for the head coaching position
with the California Bears. Tedford was offered, but
turned down the coaching job at San Diego State,
Bellotti said.
