Remember the commercials for the RAZR? The hot rock music playing in the background, the mouth-watering images shown. It was like a Maxim centerfold, but instead of a hot new actress, it was a hot new phone. The commercial then showed consumers an asking price of around $500. One has to wonder what could possibly outdo the RAZR?
Consumers need not wonder anymore; last week Motorola, the company that virtually invented the cell phone biz, unveiled a slew of new models to investors.
Set to release before the end of the year expect these
four-letter vowel-hating phones.
The Motorola RAZR MAXX. What’s the difference from the RAZR? Well, for starters MAXX has two X’s. But behind the pretentious name is quite a bit of power. Motorola has upped the processor in the new RAZR, meaning that the speed problems that plagued the previous generation are given the boot. Also its glass and metal construction makes the RAZR MAXX a bit more high-end, giving it an almost designer-like quality. The public has yet to see if the designer price tag will come along for the ride, most likely consumers are going to have to skip buying books for a semester or two to afford this phone.
The Motorola KRZR. The pronunciation will go something like “krazor.” The basic difference in this phone is its trim figure; half an inch is trimmed of the width of this media-ready bad-boy from the previous model. “The KRZR will be Motorola’s new flagship phone, sporting a design that’s narrower and sleeker than the ultra-popular RAZR,” according to the Uncrate Web site. Half an inch is half an inch and some people might be eager to trade up for the KRZR.
The Motorola RIZR. This phone is the most different from the KRZR and the RAZR MAXX. Basically it’s a slider phone, but beyond that, consumers should expect first generation RAZR quality. It’s good the phone doesn’t keep the RAZR name either because it’s not exactly razor thin or razor light and has a display of 1.9 inches.
Consumers won’t be able to buy these latest models until the fall, but at least Motorola is nice enough to give them a few months to save their money.
