Several Oregon women track and field athletes enjoyed a successful weekend Sunday in the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College.
Senior Britney Henry upped her season best in the hammer throw with a toss of 218 feet 2 inches. She sat third among collegians, but finished sixth overall. USC’s Eva Orban, who beat out Henry at the Pepsi Invitational, had a season-best throw of 219-9, good for fourth place overall.
Sophomore Rachel Yurkovich placed fourth overall and led the collegians with a throw of 169-11.
Teammate Ashley McCrea had an eighth place overall finish with a throw of 151-1, good for third place among collegians. Former Oregon Duck Sarah Malone competed for Team XO’s and finished seventh with a throw of 163-0.
The Oregon men’s throwers had a record-setting weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays.
With a 238-0 throw, senior javelin specialist Ryan Brandel boosted himself to third all-time behind former Oregon NCAA Champions John Stiegeler and Art Skipper in the Oregon javelin record books.
Brandel’s 238-0 effort is the second-best javelin throw in the nation this season. Only North Carolina’s Justin Ryncavage has managed a better mark – 240-6.
In the hammer throw, Oregon senior Brian Richotte set a new season best and moved up to seventh all-time in Oregon history with a 215-3 throw.
Henry, Brandel come up big in Azusa, Calif.
