Roosevelt Roby
Oregon Daily Emerald: Where did you get the idea to start your backflip routine during basketball games?
Roby: I love to show off. I just have it in me to wow the crowd.
ODE: When did you learn to do it?
Roby: I taught myself in second grade. I started watching gymnastics and fell in love. I tried stuff out on my trampoline or on the ground.
ODE: Do you have a history as a gymnast?
Roby: I competed as a gymnist for a coageuple years but I couldn’t aford it so I ended up doing other sports.
ODE: Why did you start cheerleading?
Roby: I’ve been cheerleading for less than two years and I did that because I wanted to be in the hall of fame at my high school as a three-letter varsity letterman in football, track, and cheerleading.
ODE: How did you manage cheerleading while playing football?
Roby: It was weird sometime because I had to go right to cheerleading practice and then my football coaches would be like, “No! We need him for this!” and then the cheerleaders would be like, “No! We need him for the competition!” It was funny. If I scored a touchdown the linemen would yell at the other team that they just got scored on my a cheerleader.
