After five years as an assistant coach and a year before that as a volunteer assistant, Dan Steele has a new title: associate director of track and field.
Head coach and Director of Track and Field Vin Lananna made the announcement Monday that Steele would be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of both the men’s and women’s programs.
“I am confident that Dan Steele is an excellent choice to oversee the daily coaching, recruiting and administrative decisions necessary for the University of Oregon track and field teams to be successful,” Lananna said in a press release.
Lananna will remain in charge of the program and its long-term goals, including upgrading Hayward Field and getting ready for the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials, leaving Steele in charge of the day-to-day business.
Steele, the 2005 and 2007 NCAA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year for men’s sprints and hurdles, has coached athletes to four NCAA and nine Pacific-10 Conference titles.
“Vin has articulated an ambitious vision for our program and I am eager to work together with him and the staff on making it happen,” Steele said in a press release.
