The School of Music and Dance has packed its winter term calendar to the brim, offering a wide array of performances that include classical, contemporary, jazz and world music. January highlights include:
The Oregon Jazz Festival on Jan. 19 and 20 at Lane Community College and the University. The festival culminates Jan. 20 with a performance by Rich Perry on the jazz saxophone at 7:30 p.m. in the LCC Auditorium. Tickets for the concert range from $12 to $18. Faculty Artist Series presents Maria Dossin on the organ at 3 p.m. Jan. 21 in Beall Hall. Tickets cost $8 for students, $10 for general admission.
Jan. 26 to 30, the school will present the Music Today Festival, featuring performances at 8 p.m. each night in Beall Hall. Performers include The Powers-Child Duo (a harmonica-guitar duo accompanied by the traditional Japanese string instrument koto, as well as dancers); the So Percussion Ensemble; and the music school’s Pacific Rim Gamelan, a multicultural composing and performing orchestra that uses instruments from around the world, according to its Web site.
