Students strolling Alder Street near campus will soon have a new dining option to go along with the already numerous restaurants off East 13th Avenue.
Sweet Basil, the popular downtown Thai cuisine eatery, will open its newest restaurant at 1219 Alder St. between Sy’s Pizza and Campus Sub Shop.
Itz Tantisira, manager of the chain’s only other location in Eugene, said the new restaurant will likely open within the next three to four weeks. No definite date has been set because of ongoing construction at the new location, he said.
The newer restaurant will be a smaller version of the current Sweet Basil restaurant, Tantisira said, offering a faster and more informal dining experience.
“We’re trying to get a different market, different types of customers over there,” he said.
Tantisira added that most of the crowd visiting the new restaurant will likely be students and employees from Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Max Stapin will manage the new Sweet Basil, which will take the place of the Korean-themed Hana’s Restaurant.
