The Oregon men’s tennis team suffered two tough home losses this weekend, coming at the hands of No. 8 Stanford and No. 37 California.
The Cardinal proved to be too much for the Ducks to handle as they swept both the singles and doubles points to earn the 7-0 victory for the day. The win put Stanford at 16-5 on the year, while Oregon fell to 9-13.
Saturday consisted of more of the same for the young Oregon team, as it fell 6-1 against the California Golden Bears. Freshman Ayrton Wibowo got the only individual win for the Ducks, coming at the No. 3 singles position against Cal’s Nick Andrews. He took the match in three sets: 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
Oregon’s duo of juniors Alexander Cornelissen and Marcos Verdasco picked up a win in doubles play, defeating Cal’s No. 13 ranked doubles team of Geoff Chizever and Pedro Zerbini. The Ducks took the match 8-4, but because both other doubles squads lost, they did not win the doubles point.
Oregon will have its final home match of the year on Saturday when it hosts the Washington Huskies.
