Oregon State Police stopped University of Oregon junior-to-be Cliff Harris for driving 118 mph in a 65-mph zone early Sunday morning on Interstate 5.
Harris, 20, was stopped at 4:32 a.m. traveling south of Albany in a rented 2011 Nissan Altima, and was cited for driving with a suspended license and exceeding the speed limit in excess of 100 mph.
Traveling over 100 mph carries a $1,148 fine, and Harris will also pay an additional $427 for driving with a suspended license. According to OSP spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings, Harris was cooperative and did not show evidence of impairment.
Harris was also traveling with two other members of the Oregon football team, but they were not cited for any wrongdoing.
The Fresno, Calif., native has run into trouble off the field in the past. On Dec. 11, 2009, Harris was cited for minor in possession of alcohol, and then on Jan. 5, 2011, he was caught speeding and cited for operating a vehicle without driving privileges and driving uninsured.
According to The Oregonian, those fines ($468.25) went unpaid before they were turned over to a collections agency last July.
A statement from head coach Chip Kelly is expected sometime Monday afternoon.
