At 5:24 p.m. a UOAlert! advised students to stay clear of the 18th Avenue and Onyx Street area on the south edge of campus. A man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and what appeared to be a holstered pistol was seen strolling the area.
Police arrived on the scene and determined that the pistol was fake and let the man go about his business. University of Oregon Police Department Information Officer Kelly McIver said dispatch received 44 calls about the incident in a matter of minutes and that people were “understandably upset.”
Law enforcement cleared the area via UOAlert! at 5:41 p.m.
