Last Friday, former Oregon Duck infielder Ryon Healy was promoted to the Oakland A’s major league roster. Healy made the most of his debut, hitting a three-run home-run in the first at-bat of his second major league game.

During his time at Oregon, Healy was one of Oregon’s best offensive performers. In 164 career collegiate games, he hit .322 with 19 home-runs and 118 RBIs. During his junior year, his last at Oregon, he batted .333 with 11 home-runs. In 2013 he was a third-round selection by the Oakland.
After college, he struggled somewhat in lower A and rookie ball, batting only .224 on two different teams. But Healy started to figure it out in 2014 while playing A ball in the California League. He batted .285 with 16 home-runs and 83 RBI’s in 136 games that season for Stockton. He improved on those numbers in 2015 while playing in the more competitive Texas League. That year he batted .302 but saw his power numbers drop slightly. Still, his 2015 was seen as “considerably better” than his 2014, according to the 2016 Baseball Prospect Book, mainly because of his improvement at a higher level of competition.
2016 brought out real success for Healy. In just 36 games for Oakland’s AA affiliate, he batted .338 with eight home-runs and 34 RBI’s. He was quickly called up to Nashville, the AAA team affiliate, and hit .318 with 6 home-runs and 30 RBI’s in 49 games. On July 15, he was called up for his major league debut.
So far, Healy has collected four hits in his 15 major league at-bats, a solid .267 clip, including his three-run homer in his first game.
He’s also shown flashes with is glove, making this tough diving play on Monday night.

Healy’s stock has risen dramatically in the past year and for good reason; he has torn up every level of baseball he’s competed in. Only time will tell if he will become a serviceable big-league player but with trajectory he’s on right now, it’s hard to say that won’t become reality soon.
