Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens was named to the College Football Playoff selection committee Thursday.
Mullens will serve a three-year term on the committee. He’s now in his sixth year at Oregon and will fill one of four committee seats.
“It is truly an honor to serve on the College Football Playoff selection committee,” Mullens said in a release. “I am looking forward to serving alongside the other distinguished members.”
Other new members of the committee include former coaches, such as former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, Southern Mississippi coach Jeff Bower and Herb Deromedi, who formerly coached at Central Michigan.
In serving on the committee, Mullens will rank the top four teams for the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. He will also help in selecting the teams and match-ups for the New Years Six Bowls. He will be excused for deliberations involving the Ducks.
“Throughout the selection process, it was essential that the four new members have an in-depth knowledge and passion for college football,” CFP executive director Bill Hancock said in a statement. “Each of those four fit that description perfectly. They will continue the high integrity of the committee.”
The group of four replaces Mike Gould, Pat Haden, Tom Osborne and Mike Tranghese, whose terms concluded following the 2015 season.
Mullens arrived in Eugene in 2010 after working at Kentucky, where he was the deputy director of athletics.
