The rainy season is here, and the time has come for mushroom hunting.
The Outdoor Program’s Fall Interpretive Series’ mushroom clinics are guiding students in properly identifying mushrooms and staking out the best spots to find them.
Starting with a mushroom identification presentation tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Outdoor Program’s office to teach students how to identify mushrooms, the three-part clinic will cover mushroom education, hunting, preserving and cooking.
“The identification clinic is going to cover a lot of ground in teaching students about the different kinds of mushrooms and what’s good and bad,” said Outdoor Program Trip Facility Director and clinic host Ed Fredette. “Even if you aren’t going on the field trip but plan on going mushroom hunting this season, it’s a good idea to come to the identification clinic to learn more about mushrooms.”
There is a mushroom hunting field trip on Saturday and Sunday (pre-registration required) and a cultivating, preserving and cooking clinic on Saturday, Nov. 12. Material costs for the cooking clinic is $5 for students and Outdoor Program Co-op members and $7 for the public. Visit the Outdoor Program office to register.
