Am I crazy? Or should I say, are we crazy?
The Fiancee and I are in the process of booking a
flight to Prague for spring break. Well… not
Prague — Frankfurt — to stay with an old college buddy
for a couple nights, but then our final destination is
Prague. With tax, the flight itself is going to cost
us a little more than $1,000. That is cheap,
as international flights go, but it’s also $1,000 we don’t really have
to
spare. Maybe y’all
are familiar with life as a student? It involves a
lot of penny pinching as is, and we already shop at
the Grocery Outlet where, if you’re really lucky, you
can get Sangria for $1.99 a bottle and spicy Spam in a
can that is only a few days past its expiration date.
But let me tell you about Prague. Prague is home to
some amazing places like the href=”http://duke.usask.ca/~akkerman/geog340/prague9.jpg”
target=”_blank”>Charles Bridge and some of the href=”http://duke.usask.ca/~akkerman/geog340/prague10.jpg”
target=”_blank”>oldest buildings in Eastern
Europe. It’s a great venue for building a
architecture portfolio, which I’ll be needing if I
want to get into the architecture grad program next
year. It is also the temporary home of one of my best
friends, who will be working there for a few months
and has offered us a place to stay for free. So it’s
a no-brainer, right? We should go, right? Did I
mention we’re also getting married in Alaska in July? Piling wedding
expenses on top of it all should put us
well enough into the red so that the future Bish
Junior will be lucky if he even gets minimal dental
care.
I haven’t even asked my parents if they’ll take care
of our 100-pound Labrador while we’re gone.
I’m 6-foot, 3-inches and more than 250 pounds… I hate
planes and planes hate me!
I should just shut the hell up, I’m goin’ to Prague!
