Man fatally shot at Churchill High School in Eugene.
A 44-year-old man was fatally shot on Wednesday by a Eugene police officer after initially being stopped while riding a mini-motorcycle, according to The Register-Guard. What happened next is still under investigation, but police Capt. Scott Fellman said that after pulling over the suspect, he requested emergency backup and ordered a lockdown for local schools.
Rep. Trey Radel pleads guilty to possession of cocaine.
Congressman Trey Radel (R-Fla.) pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine Wednesday. Although it’s a misdemeanor charge, it’s a big deal. Here’s why: Radel is the first only member of Congress to have been convicted of cocaine possession while in office, according to a House Ethics Committee report. He was busted for buying the cocaine on Oct. 29, but court documents say he’s bought the drug before. Radel doesn’t want to step down but he has said he would take a leave of absence to deal with his addiction.
Midwest tornado kills dozens in Illinois.
Six people were killed and dozens more were injured after a series of tornadoes slammed the Midwest on Sunday. Washington, Ill. got the worst of it. Houses were leveled and farms were turned upside down.
Virginian Senator stabbed multiple times by son.
Virginia State Senator Creigh Deeds was stabbed multiple times in the face and chest and his son was found dead on Tuesday. Senator Deeds was allegedly stabbed by his 24-year-old son, Austin. He had dropped out of college last month and had a psychiatric evaluation on Monday, but was never admitted to a psychiatric hospital because apparently there were no beds available, according to the Washington Post.
Senate votes to limit the use of filibuster.
The Senate voted to limit the use of the filibuster against most presidential nominees on Thursday, the most fundamental shift in the way the Senate functions in more than a generation, according to The New York Times.
