– The Oregon women’s basketball season came to a close last night as the Ducks fell in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament 107-100 to Washington State. Jillian Alleyne led the Ducks with 28 points and 21 rebounds. Despite Alleyne’s strong performance, Oregon couldn’t control Washington State’s Tia Presley and Lia Galdeira. The dynamic duo both scored 31 points and led the Cougars past the Ducks. The loss likely marked the final game in head coach Paul Westhead’s Oregon career. Prior to the game, the team announced that it wouldn’t renew the coach’s contract.
– During media availability before Wednesday’s practice, head Oregon baseball coach George Horton indicated that right-hander Jeff Gold will start on Sunday against Ohio State. Gold is 3-0 on the year, including a win Tuesday over Seattle. The Ducks will take on the Buckeyes this weekend.
– The NCAA Football Rules Committee made headlines this week when it decided to withdraw its push for a 10-second rule in college football. The Oregonian’s Andrew Greif talked with Oregon football head coach Mark Helfrich about the NCAA’s decision. “The whole thing was about competitive advantage and how you play and how you think you’re going to win and what’s best for your team,” Helfrich told Greif. “I heard (Alabama) coach (Nick) Saban talking the other day and he gave all these reasons that didn’t really have anything to do with player safety that had to do with the NFL.”
– After climbing nine spots in the rankings, the Oregon men’s tennis team will take on Portland and No. 45 Drake this week. With his next win, senior Robin Cambier will break the school record for most wins by a singles player. Freshman Jayson Amos is riding an eight game win streak heading into this week’s action. He’s 11-1 in his first season with the Ducks.
