The Oregon Ducks weren’t the only ones in uniform at their 2014 spring football game, as they carried on the recent tradition of honoring America’s Armed Forces at their annual scrimmage. Fans were asked to donate three cans of non-perishable food items to Food For Lane County in exchange for admission to the 11 a.m. kickoff, which pitted team Mariasu (led by quarterback Marcus Mariota and center Hroniss Grasu) against team Twifo (led by cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and linebacker Tony Washington).
Team Mariasu prevailed 27-7, with Mariota turning-in a strong performance and displaying the skills that make him one of the top-Heisman Trophy contenders in 2014. Sophomore running back Thomas Tyner was also impressive, as the former high school track phenom showed off his speed and athleticism on numerous occasions. Redshirt freshman receiver Devon Allen (another track star) was also impressive, catching two TD’s and adding his name to the list of receivers to replace the NFL-bound Josh Huff (and the injured Bralon Addison, who may be out for the season with a knee injury suffered during spring practice). Senior cornerback Dior Mathis added an interception on a poorly thrown pass by redshirt sophomore Jake Rodrigues, who struggled on the day.
All in all a good showing for the Ducks, who have national championship aspirations in 2014. Check out the photos from Ethos Sports’ Ryan Lund above.
